What I Like About You

The TJ05 has a reasonably good selection of useful and attractive features.
With excellent aesthetics, a shiny finish and a well placed case window,
the TJ05 looks great from the outside. Inside the case there’s plenty of room
for component placement. Those who want to use water cooling have plenty of
room for component placement. Assembly is made simple by having all components
readily available in Ziploc bags and an accessory kit located in the bottom of
the chassis.

With
a sweeping curved bezel, the anodized black aluminum doors look stunning.
Complimenting the design is the front power panel, which hides the intake holes
for the front fan. Arranged top to bottom are the Power Button, Reset Switch,
Power and Hard drive activity light in that order. Catering to a case modder’s
preferences, the LEDs are a bright blue. The rest of the case is finished in
high gloss black paint, which looks excellent, while simultaneously not
overwhelming the rest of the case. Silverstone really deserves points for that;
shiny things really tend to catch the eye. Available with this case is a
pre-modded panel with a large case window. While the view can be spoiled by the
hard drive support rail and the VGA cooling/hard drive support panel, these two
items are easy to remove by taking out a few screws and a clip.
The
optical and hard disk drives as well as the PCI devices can be added without
any tools thanks to rails and well implemented expansion card locks. These are
much better than the ones I have seen on cheap computer cases. I am pleased to
see this feature integrated so well into the TJ05. With a simple press of the
fingers, expansion cards are securely installed. The rails aren’t perfect
though; Ill get into that later.

With
two 120mm fans and a PSU fan, cooling is more than adequate; my previous case
achieved the same temperatures using five 80mm fans; the TJ05 makes definite
improvements in noise over being stuck with much smaller 8 cm fans.
The
TJ05 has a removable hard drive tray, support rail and VGA cooler/hard drive
mounting plate. While there isn’t a removable motherboard tray, it is not
necessary in this case thanks to the very roomy interior of the TJ05.
The
case’s front door opens easily with a press of your hand. To remove the disk
media from the case, you need to open the second door. This second door locks
shut to prevent unrestricted access. Also connected to this door on the
right-hand side are the four USB ports, two audio jacks and one fire wire port.
While not exactly ideal for people who want to place their cases under a desk,
it is a decent spot.

The
second door also provides access to one of my favorite features of the TJ05,
and that is the removable fan filter for the 120mm intake. Without a filter,
the CPU fan is in need of a dusting in less than a week. After several weeks of
use, the TJ05’s filter has not let in any noticeable quantities dust into the
system-and after cleaning off the filter with a quick rinse and a shake-dry, I
must say it is rather disturbing how much dust could have been cycling through
my components. Perhaps its time to invest in an air purifier…
