Written by [t0rc]
Headphones are the solution to having personal, portable audio. The new question that's being asked is how to cram high-quality sound into as small a package as possible. While they're not surround sound headphones, the Icemat Siberia Multi Headset has good audio output, nice design (durable and comfortable; even matches your iPod), as well as a microphone to promote your trash-talking on CS or to record a meeting for later use. Either way, the Icemat Siberia Headset is here to check out.

Everything in the box arrived carefully packaged and right on time. Nothing was damaged in transport.
The white headphones actually look pretty decent. It could be due to the fact that most headphones are black/silver but we liked the white. In the box the headphones don't look that big but once removed from the box their earcups are massive; they cover even the largest ear so comfort isn't a problem. The adapter you see is included so you can use them with audio equipment that uses the larger jack.

Included with the headphones are the microphone and inline volume control, pin adapter, and mic mounts. The microphone has a clip which allows you to attach it to your shirt as well as an ON/OFF switch on it's side. The microphone has a large pickup range and accurately transmit voices. The inline control has cabling mounts for the microphone wires if you want to run them together; which makes sense with most headphone jacks being next to the mic jack. The cables are plenty long(2.8m) so you won't be restricted from moving around. The headphones can be used without the mic and inline remote, which reduces the cord length and is great for an MP3 player.

The comforting earcups are accompanied by an auto-sizing system that actually works. Instead of having to manually adjust the headphones the band does it for you; also conforming to your head curvature. The black band with the Icemat Audio insignia on it is connected to 4 (2 on each side) cables that adjust (retract and lengthen) accordingly to the wearers orientation.

Probably the most important thing about headphones is the sound quality. Whether surround sound or not, bad sound quality results in a product going down the tubes. A balance between features, visual appeal, and sound quality must be achieved and this is where the Siberia excels.
The sound quality is amazingly accurate. The distinction between the left and right channels is well done and the frequency range of the output is more than suitable. After watching multiple DVD's, listening to gigabytes of songs, and playing games (Doom 3, UT2K4, CS, HL2, and FarCry) we were nothing less than impressed by the high fidelity sound. The quality of sound is indisputable which makes us even more anxious to see a surround sound version. The gripes we have about the Siberia sound quality: stronger bass (our custom bass tests sounded too weak), a little distortion overall at highest volume levels, and we want a surround sound version!

Through gaming and bragging, MP3's and voice recording, DVD's and sleeping, the Icemat Audio Multi Headset performs and looks great. Unfortunately they are pretty overpriced. We couldn't see paying nearly the amount they retail at; especially because we could pick up a good pair of surround sound headphones for just as much. The audio distortion is minimal, there's no discomfort, the bass is a little weak but it's biggest flaw is the price. The Icemat Audio Multi Headset receives a rating of 88% and a Silver Award.

Thanks to Icemat for making this review possible.
