Gaming Heaven Review: Spiderman 3

"The main story of the game, as you can surely guess, follows the same plot as the movie, but Treyarch knew this wouldn’t be enough and thankfully, gave many parallel side missions with famous villains from the comic books too, keeping the spider within all of us contempt. Overall, that’s forty-two different missions, without counting the extra challenges like skydiving and such spread out throughout the city. But will you actually want to finish these numerous missions? Well, the answer might surprise you…"

OCZ 2GB PC2-9200 Reaper

With over clocking becoming a widely accepted mainstream hobby, memory companies are releasing more extreme solutions every year. This year has seen a rapid increase in the "funky" cooling sector (no, I just made that up, its not really a sector). It wouldn't be like OCZ to miss the party, so today we are looking at a 2 GB overclocking kit they released, called "The Reaper".

Mushkin XP2-8500 4 GB

Mushkin's XP2-8500 4 GB DDR2 memory is the only kit on the market that can run DDR2-1066 in a 4 GB configuration. While other manufacturers have to use CL6 @ 800 MHz, Mushkin can use CL5 @ 1066, at around 2.30 V. Having 4 GB of system memory may soon be the recommended configuration when running the memory-hungry Windows Vista. The only drawback of this memory is its price: $679.

DDR-2 vs. DDR-3 Memory – An exhaustive look at the Intel P35 platform

"The release of the P35 chipset from Intel has marked DDR-3 memory coming to the mainstream market. While pricey at the moment and not looking all that attractive when it comes to timings, we find ourselves in the same position as at the launch of DDR-2 which came with a high price tag and pretty ordinary looking specs out of the gate. With a bunch of motherboards along with some DDR-3 memory from our friends at Corsair, we are going to dive in and have a look at exactly what an upgrade to DDR-3 is going to do for us at this point in time but is it worth jumping straight on the bandwagon right now? Maybe we should wait it out for a bit? Is the P35 a worthy upgrade from the P965? This and more will be answered as we look through a number of different setups and benchmarks in this article."

Viewsonic VX2235WM 22 Inch LCD Display Review

On their website Viewsonic tells us that the VX2235WM is an "elegantly styled, fast widescreen". The days of LCD specialization in anything that sells for under $2000 are clearly dead and no one has done a better job of embracing this than Viewsonic. With a 5ms response time there is no doubt this these displays are fast, especially for a 22" model that sells for under $400, but the claims of elegance are up for dispute.

EVGA 8800 Ultra Superclocked

"For those that don't know, the performance graphics card market is dominated by two rivals; ATI and nVidia. These two companies constantly play the game of "One Upmanship" with each other and recently it has been no different. As ATI released - after much delay - their HD 2900 series of cards, Nvidia brought to the market a hugely overclocked 8800GTX card, known as the Ultra. This card promised monster performance that would keep Nvidia as the performance king for that bit longer. Today I have the Superclocked version of this card from EVGA; lets see how it does."

Apevia X-QPACK2 Aluminum Case

"Compared to the first generation of X-QPack, the X-QPack2 is a better designed and better performing Micro-ATX case. The improvements design-wise is the slightly deeper chassis which gives a bit more clearance for long video cards and optical drives, and the improved performance comes from the additional cooling and higher rated power supply."

OCZ Rally2 8GB USB 2.0 Dual Channel Flash Memory Drive

Since its inception, the flash drive or "thumb" drive has given mainstream users an unique way to transport and organize their personal and professional information. These pint-size devices are holding larger and larger capacities these days, which in turn makes their value and usefulness that much more significant. My first thumb drive could only hold 128MBs of data, but now OCZ Technology has introduced an 8GB version of the Rally2 Dual Channel flash drive. These drives have been a fan favorite since the beginning, but we are going to run it through our gauntlet of performance benchmarks to see how it performs against the competition.

Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500

Esthetics and appearance aside, these modules are pretty solid...okay, so they are extremely satisfying. You are basically getting the fastest binned memory from the manufacturer who makes the most important component in any other kit of memory rated at the same speed or higher. I am a bench marker and out-right performance is all that impresses me with memory. The 3-4-3 overclocking of this memory has me very impressed and I have had some good kits at those timings. the bonus with this kit is that it clocks at 5-5-5 as well as some of the PC2-9200 modules out there.

Best 3dfx Glide Games Article

"We all know how the story played out for 3dfx, the graphics company that had dominated the industry for several years in the late 90s with their Glide API. The Glide API was created by 3dfx and optimized the overall gaming experience when used in conjunction with the Voodoo hardware. Having a specialized API was both the highlight and the downfall for 3dfx. For the few short years that Glide reigned supreme, there were several games released that implemented this proprietary API. Today we will take a trip down memory lane and remember some of the best games ever that used Glide..."

be quiet! 700w Power Supply Review

"The power supply itself is finished in a high gloss gunmetal paint job which looks great. The right side (or left, depending on how you look at it) of the power supply displays the typical specs sticker found on all units. This unit has four 12v rails, each sporting 18A. This should be plenty for most systems, but we will see how it performs on the highly overclocked 8800GTX SLI test system in just a bit."

Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler Review

"Don't get confused by Thermaltake's new "V1" nomenclature. No, they're not churning out race cars or jet fighters, instead sticking to what they do best; cooling. Catalyst 7.4 Vista OpenGL Performance Analysis

"There is nothing better then getting free performance boosts for our Radeon cards from the monthly Catalyst software updates. Every month we expect to see some new goods from AMD’s finest software department. Sometimes our expectations are too high and we are left somewhat disappointed, and sometimes they manage to rock us all. Last month AMD has released Catalyst 7.4 and claimed that they had boosted its OpenGL performance on Windows Vista. With AMD’s Catalyst 7.5 around the corner, and the hype around R600, we relaxed, sat back and tested the Catalyst 7.4 suite under Microsoft’s new Vista operating system to investigate AMD’s claims. Are they telling the truth? And if it’s true – is it a pure performance improvement? or something we have to pay for by sacrificing image quality? Vista’s OpenGL performance wasn’t that impressive when compared to Windows XP, same as DirectX, but it’s getting better with every software update. Since Windows Vista is the future, and NVIDIA owned the DirectX 10 market; AMD had to pull something out their bag of goods to make this remain interesting."

Ancient Wars Sparta PC Game Review

For the hardcore RTSer, the game will mostly revolve around the “all your goldmines are belong to us” strategy, for whoever controls the mines has a noticeable advantage. When this game gets put on the $20 shelf it’s time to buy it, but not before or you'll feel like you wasted your cash. Don't get me wrong, I like the game, I just don't think it’s worth the $40 that most stores ask for.

"About a week ago, I had the pleasure of playing with Abit's flagship IN9 32X-MAX 680i Motherboard and mentioned the successes that the all but dead Intel 965X chipset was still causing serious waves among the enthusiasts. Well, here before me is the Abit AB9 Quad GT P965 Crossfire Motherboard which has in many forums taken the Core 2 Duo in to uncharted territory that rivals that of the 680i chipset. There are so many differences between the two chipsets, yet they have so many of the same features."

Intel P35 Bearlake And DDR3 Memory Launch

Although information has been floating around for ages and product hit the channel sooner than expected, today is actually the day Intel is officially unleashing their newest mainstream desktop chipset, the P35, a member of the formerly codenamed “Bearlake” family. In addition to a new Southbridge, the P35 chipset ushers in support for DDR3 system memory in the desktop. It also supports legacy DDR2 memory, depending on the motherboard’s DIMM slot configuration. We’ve taken a pair of brand-new P35-based motherboards from Asus for a spin with both DDR2 and DDR3 memory installed. As you’ll see, thanks to some relatively high latencies currently, DDR3 doesn’t affect performance all that much. It sure is great for overclocking though!

Third Life: The line blurs between virutal and reality

Virtual Worlds. You've probably all seen them before in science fiction in comics. Worlds where jacking in via VR helmet or Neuro Implant send us to some fantastical internet life separate from our real one. Though we are decades away from "The Matrix" and gladly so, virtual worlds have existed for sometime now, and are evolving day by day.

3RSYSTEM iCEAGE CPU Cooler Review

"Rarely do we see a huge innovation in CPU cooler design. I think that last big thing was heatpipes and those are in tons of CPU coolers now. Instead of having heatpipes go into a heatsink base the heatpipes make up the base of the cooler. We will see how well this technology works and if it will make CPU coolers lighter in the future."
