After a surprisingly quick and painless install compared to most Windows applications (even on slow computers), there was a new icon on my desktop, which launched upon double clicking (There is no option whether to place it or not).
Whats got to be the least painful Windows program Install. Ever.
The first thing to be seen after launching the program is a screen that lists every application running. Clicking on any one reveals what it is and what it does-a godsend for those wondering what on earth just popped up out of nowhere onto their tasks manager. Although checking to see what your currently running tasks are, that is not the program's only function. Included in the application is a system resources manager, similar to the one visible in Windows 2000 and later when you press ctrl+alt+del, though with more options; instead of only having up to the minute resources consumption, you can view resource usage over time periods of One minute, 10 minutes, Two Hours, or even 24 hours. Main screen turn on. Other features included in this program are a script editor (For making Windows do things under certain conditions without your presence), a block/allow process list, which allows you to select certain processes to allow and which ones to not allow. This could be very handy for those who want to download applications that are equipped with spyware -you can just use this application to make them cease functioning. Another use is disabling viruses and spyware to see if it damages your system or not before removing them.
Another thing included is an Autostart list; this tool allows you to decide which applications are run once your computer is started. This has many of the same uses as the Block list, but applies as of startup. In addition, if you want to make Internet explorer, Outlook or IRC load on startup, go right ahead! Simply click "Add" and search the file directory for the executable of choice. Of course, if you are in the business environment it's probably better to make it load Microsoft Excel and Word than chat applets. In addition to all these features, you can also get down and dirty and control the process priorities-or stop them altogether. While these are all options available in Windows 2000 and later, it is a nice thing to have in Windows 9X. By also combining them all into one screen that is visible at all times, it also makes process control much quicker - and therefore less time consuming for users of all mainstream Windows operating systems.
With these powers at your disposal, computer management and tweaking becomes far easier. This is an application I recommend for ANYONE who is prone to system crashes and other issues that normally require the infamous ctrl+alt+del to solve. Within the bounds of what this program is meant to do, it is perfect. It does exactly what it's supposed to do in a simple interface that gives you the power to utterly control your computer. Most people keep their MSN chat list and Winamp playlists in their second monitor; this is one I would be glad to place in their, maximized, as well. I can't help but love what this program will let you do and what scraps this application can get you out of - without registry modification or other complex or risky changes.
If there is one complaint to make however, it is cost. At $49.95, for what this program does, it's expensive. I personally would be much more willing to purchase this application at $29.95. Due to the price, this application misses the Gold but scores Silver. Congratulations on a well made program, Uniblue. Now just axe the price and you will have a winner. I reccomend this product to anyone who wants control over Windows. Its just that good!
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Intuitive
- Ability to script commands
- Total, Utter control
Cons:
