G5 Laser Mouse PDF Print E-mail
Written by [t0rc]
In the gaming arena it is often that the fastest one wins. Even with a rocket launcher versus a machine gun; if you're the latter and remain quick enough to evade the blasts while firing away, you'll most likely be the victor. What has been realized by gamers around the globe is that wireless peripherals increase response time by a few milliseconds thus handing them a disadvantage. The G5 is a wired, laser mouse intended for gaming (as the G-Series motive is) and while it may appear like many other mice with a tilt wheel, laser engine, 2000dpi on the fly sensitivity switching, and a few other things, the G5 has one completely new element: weights. Yes, customizable weights that you can rearrange to fit your fancy for gaming or whatever your chosen application may be. Will this make a difference in gaming? We're not sure; we'll need to experience it to believe it. Lets get this show on the road and see if the G5 is a gamers best friend or a trash bin camper.

Some people don't need a good mouse. They just check their e-mail, surf a little, and then move along to their daily tasks. Well for those out there that game with intent to win (or become the 1337 pwn* that everyone fears) a good excellent mouse is key. Wireless mice usually create lag (i.e. between the mouse and receiver, "sleep" mode, etc.) which will just leave you waiting to respawn (Logitech's G7 wireless mouse is reported to eliminate lag by utilizing a full USB connection with increased reports/second as well as a lengthened "sleep" feature). A low dpi will give you good accuracy but you won't be able to turn 180° fast enough. On the other hand a high dpi will give you very quick movements but you may not have as great of accuracy. Today we're taking a look at the Logitech G5 Laser Mouse, which if it's papers read true, should be able to satisfy the needs of a modern day gamer.

Information/Specs

Here are some quotes and information from the Logitech website and/or documents we were provided with:

Adjust the weight and balance to win your game! The Logitech G5 Laser Mouse gives you the edge with a 2000 dpi laser engine sending out an astounding 500 USB reports per second* for precision response at blinding speeds.

A Logitech exclusive, the G5's 36-gram adjustable weight cartridge gives you thousands of variations on balance and weight—including one that´s perfect for your unique gaming style. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) gaming feet provide the ultra-smooth glide you want in a gaming-grade mouse, and Logitech´s SetPoint software allows you to customize your mouse with advanced features such as game detection and in-game adjustable sensitivity (including independent x- and y-axis settings).
