G3 Laser Mouse PDF Print E-mail
Written by [t0rc]
It used to be that everyone had nearly the same simple mouse technology: a boring rollerball. Then a few years ago optical mice began to appear as the new top-of-the-line mice. More recently, mousing technology advanced into the age of laser tracking systems. Extremely fast and detailed—compared to its predecessors—laser engines have quickly become the choice for many gamers and are finding their way into the office. The debut of the MX1000 from Logitech was a great demonstration of the new engine and proved that laser mice were more than just hype. Today we're taking a look at the new G3 Laser Mouse from Logitech capable of 2000dpi (for comparison, the MX1000 drops in at 800dpi), on-the-fly dpi changes, 500 reports/second via USB 2.0, and tracking almost four feet (45in.) per second.

Introduction/Information

Here's the product description from the Logitech fact sheet as well as some key features:
The Logitech G3 Laser Mouse’s compact, ambidextrous design encourages a fingertip grip, which many gamers prefer to make quicker and bolder movements using their wrists. The G3 mouse includes the same ultra-powerful mouse engine as the Logitech G5 and G7 mice and 2,000 dpi resolution. In addition, the G3 has the Logitech DryGrip surface, which helps gamers comfortably maintain a secure grip during marathon gaming sessions.

Like it states above, the G3 does have the same laser engine that both the G5 and G7 use. The G3 just doesn't have the extra feature of a set of weights (G5) or rechargeable battery packs (G7) but the lack thereof makes the G3 a little more affordable. Unless you need the weights or want the wireless ability, the G3 might just be the route to go. After all the introductions it's time to take a closer look at the G3. Is it a good mouse? or is it cheap in areas other than price? Let's find out.
