Over the last few years the migration to plastic/acrylic for a better mousing surface has been intense but those that prefer the cloth mousepad haven't disappeared. SteelSeries has catered to gamers for a long time and isn't stopping with the 5L. While this is quite a modified cloth mousepad it still retains the feel and detailed surface of cloth (despite the fact that it's coated with a thin layer of plastic). The durability is increased and the plastic even makes cleaning easier. SteelSeries has really come up with an excellent mouse pad this time around. The five layers increase the cost but not unreasonably. The increase is warranted as effectiveness and performance climb with it.

Once you tally up everything, SteelSeries has done their homework and created another great mouse pad for gamers. The price might be a bit high for non-enthusiasts/non-gamers, but it is supported by a solid and durable product. The five layers make a difference, no doubt. The 5L has definitely shown that cloth mouse pads are far from dead and can still compete with the most advanced acrylic/plastic surfaces in today's market. The pad could come with some form of cord management - since it is aimed at the gaming audience and the bottom layer can leave residue on your desk (although it cleaned right off ours) however these are minor gripes. With great tracking, excellent durability, no loss of shape, a soft but resilient surface, large size, and the feel of a cloth surface the 5L finishes strong. As with a lot of gaming mouse pads, those who are involved in graphic design/graphical fields may want to consider this mouse pad as it allows for a fine level of detail with movements and has a large area. If you want a cloth mouse pad the SteelPad 5L should be at the top of your wishlist. The 5L receives our Gold award and Editor's Choice award.
Thanks goes to SteelSeries for making this review possible.
