Process Library is an interesting online resource that has been adding more and more utilities to their suite of windows management tools. The latest of these is Quick Access, an on-the-fly task examining utility. We’ll explain why this is much more than just another background task here.
On the average Windows XP based computer, there are approximately 36 background tasks running at all times, including Anti-virus and messenger software. If you have more, it could be because of extra programs you have installed, or because of spyware, viruses, or Trojans.
Quick access makes it easier to find out what these files do by providing a quick information hyperlink.
The information provided is quick and concise. With a threat rating and a description of the task’s functionality, it is relatively easy to figure out what is going on within your PC – so long as it isn’t a task with the same name as another.
The information is presented through the website Process Library (www.processlibrary.com). In an excellent move, this program allows you to minimize the task manager to keep it out of the way. In addition, Quick Access will open the task information page within your browser of choice – be it Firefox, Internet Explorer, or what have you. The best part is, if the browser supports it, the process page will load in a separate tab. Quick Access also lets you minimize the task manager.
On its own, Quick Access has virtually no impact on system performance. Opening up information in separate tabs will take up memory of course, but otherwise, there is no performance hit for leaving this process running.
When all is said and done, this program is an excellent way to figure out just what is running on your PC. Whether youre just trying to figure out what that windows process that takes up half your memory does, or if youre struggling to determine just what that mysterious process is that popped up after you visited a risqué website, Quick Access is the easiest way to figure out if you can safely ignore it or should spend a couple hours running an anti-spyware or virus scan.
Oh, and by the way. Did we mention that the program is free? Yep. You can download it for free at:www.processlibrary.com/quickaccess/.
