The power supply came in the almighty and familiar Brown Box. Once I opened it, to my surprise, I found that there were actually two brown boxes to avoid damage. A very nice packing job indeed. But it didn't end there, I found inside the small box, everything surrounded in red-tinted bubble wrap..*pop*. In any case, the power supply, unless perhaps run over by an automobile, wasn't getting damaged during transport to my doorstep.

After rummaging through the package, I found the standard things: power cord, mounting screws. But I also found a very detailed installation manual. It even had diagrams of the connectors and which colors/pins were which. Last but not least, I found a nicely prepared sleek, black, power supply.

When I took the PSU out of the box, I discovered that the wires were all neatly sleeved in a black mesh. Sleeving being very important for airflow and organization. Sleeved wires look better and they block much less air from your fans than normal non-sleeved wires. I saw a few holes, and as it turns out they are adjustable potentiometers. Also, some of the molexes had blue plugs in them.

I found two things that were less than what I expected and one of them could cause major problems. Firstly, the wires leading to the 2nd molex or floppy connector, isn't long enough. As you can see in the picture below, it's soo short. I assume it's because you would use those for your drives but what if you used the other ones all over the place and still needed one for a drive and one for your ccfls? Other issue is that those wires should also be sleeved instead of left bare. In the picture you can also see the blue plugs I spoke of earlier.

I hooked up this bad boy, grabbed my multi-meter, and went to work. Before telling you my findings, take a look at this excerpt from an ad for the 510 and what its capable of, and their comparison. Click on the picture for the whole advertisement.

They give this power supply a pretty big reputation to live up to. And it does just that. After testing all the rails, which are rated at 1% tolerances (5% for -5,-12), this thing acts like it's a mountain trying to be blown over. It just doesn't budge. Most of the time when you test psu's, you see fluxations of a few tenths, if not more. In a comparison of empty load to full load, the average change for the 510 was .01! For example, the 5v line went from a solid 5.18 to a 5.17. I believe I know what they mean when they call this PSU "high-performance".

This "Beatiful Beast" as it's called, is just that. It looks good, but no fancy LED lighting, no plexi frame, just clean old black. And it's definitely a beast, performing through the lightning storm when the lights flickered, surviving a drop down the stairs (carpeted mind you), and running straight through the night without heating up or getting louder. It's just an overall good PSU, and if you want it to look cooler, whip out your modding skills and get to work! My two true gripes are the short cables on double molex lines, and the price. As they say, you get what you pay for. And if you pay for this, your getting a quiet and cool PSU that will last you a long time and perform exceptionally, with that stealthy, black paint and sleeving. It really depends on how much you value a powerful, stealthy, sleeved, and accurate PSU as to whether this product is going to seem worth the money or not. This product receives a 91% rating.
