Being able to monitor fan speed is like most problems: it has a lot of solutions; everyone has their preference. Using hardware or software or just modding the thing to control it's speed are all viable options. Ultra has come up with an easy to install bay LCD fan controller dubbed: Fan Commander. Controlling up to 7 fans while monitoring 3 thermal sensors and a lot of other things, the bay LCD looks excellent. Being able to control up to 7 fans at one time is a daunting task; especially to do it efficiently and make it easy enough to change any fan speed quickly -not to mention presenting all the data and of course, controlling fans correctly. Can the Fan Commander prove it's worth and compete for a place in your case? or will it fall by the wayside and become our newest paperweight? Investigate with us and decide whether this Fan Controller sinks or swims.

Until we all switch to watercooling or a phase change system, the majority of PC's employ air cooling. Fans can provide sufficient cooling as long as they move enough CFMs. While fans may be cheap and easy to install unfortunately most of the time: more CFMs = more RPMs = more noise. Having more noise is annoying, especially if your fans run full go all the time; never easing up to give your ears a break. Even when the computer doesn't need the fans at 100%, they're still going because you don't have a way to control them. Are you doomed to have a noisy PC? Nope. Modding your fans, or even making your own fan controller are some pretty common ways to influence fan speed but what if you don't have the time or know-how to fabricate your own? Ultra has pressented a solution: the Ultra Fan Commander.

Equipped with a back-lit LCD, the ability to control up to 7 fans (individually), 3 thermal sensors, time/date, temperature warning, and graphical/numerical fan speed display the Fan Commander strives to look good while doing everything.

Time for a quote from Ultra about their Fan Commander:
" You’ll be able to exercise total temperature control over your system with this Fan Commander. And isn't that the way it should be? The Fan Commander features an auto control setting with alarm that activates fans to run at full speed in order to cool down to a safe level if your PC’s temperature exceeds a certain default limit. Black or Aluminum Finish bezel is included. Monitor CPU, HDD, and System temperature from one location. LCD also features date, time, and a HDD status light indicator. This easy to install device puts you in control of your system. "
