Of course, one of the most important aspects of the mousepad is the performance level that it allows your mouse to achieve; we'll get to this directly after a sidenote we've got to make about Func Industries.

If you've been following our news (if not, check out this post) you'll have seen a few things in there about the Archetype, more specifically it's unique surface. Reviewers were shipped versions of the Archetype to take a look at and evaluate. After getting some feedback from the press, it was determined that the G5 and G7 mice had some issues with the pattern printed on the Archetype sUrface that interfered with responsiveness and functionality. Upon finding this, Func engineers went about finding a way to fix it and after doing so, promptly shipped out replacements to reviewers. But they didn't stop there. They started testing each and every Archetype sUrface to leave the factory to make sure they worked properly. They're changing all the sUrface's with the issue to make them fully compatible. It's good to see a company take action like this, admit that there's a mistake, and take immediate action to correct it the error.

Performance. It's something a mousepad should increase (at the very least maintain), especially a gaming mousepad. Func has a reputation for making unique gaming surfaces that not only enhance performance but also give you options. Being able to pick between which surface you're going to use for which application and even switching on the fly is a great capability. Func also manages to implement this without having to make the pad any thicker than needed. Just grab your mouse, flip the pad out of the base and over and keep fragging (of course, if you're going to flip it in the middle of the game, you might not be using the base component). The Archetype uses two sufaces, one smooth, one grainy/rough; with tweaking of your mouse settings (usually acceleration and sensitivity), both surfaces can serve you well. It's all personal preference but rest assured no matter which side you're using, you'll be getting excellent tracking even with a ball mouse.

At the end of the day, the Func Industries Archetype 1030 sUrface backs up Func's claims. Excellent tracking, dual surfaces to suit anyone and provide different responses, solid no-slip base, a cord clip, and a price that won't leave you high and dry. Even though the current size won't restrict mosts users movement, we would still like to see a bigger version available; sometimes you just need more room. We can safely recommend to users that the Archetype is a good buy. Whatever you do on the PC, the Archetype will help you do it better. The Func Industries Archetype 1030 sUrface receives our Gold Award and Editors Choice award.

Thank you to Func Industries (www.func.net) for making this review possible.
