Logitech Z-2300 PDF Print E-mail
Written by [t0rc]

After seeing all the technical specifications on this system, combined with the weight THX certification carries, we were expecting an impressive system; we weren't disappointed. The Z-2300's deliver better than any other 2.1 system we've heard to date. The dynamic range is quite impressive, high whines, low shell explosions, medium voices; sounds in every test we put to the Z-2300s came through crisp and clear. The bass is thunderous, easily penetrating the chair your sitting on and most of the rooms around you. We tested to see if a glass sitting on top of the table would fall off, it didn't. However, a glass set on top of the subwoofer was successfully knocked off. As with most systems, when volume nears 100%, there's a degree of general distortion (which is much more noticeable up close than if you're several feet away). Listening to this system up close at nearly max volume isn't something we see most users doing very often (other than for bragging rights and showing off). Unfortunately, no matter how good the 2.1 system is, it's not as immersive as a 5.1 system.

Through music, DVDs, and tons of gaming, the speakers not only held their own but put other 2.1 competition to shame. It would seem that Logitech came with the intent to dominate the 2.1 speaker system market by creating a system with more power, better quality, good looks, and a low price tag. If that is the case, the Z-2300s have done just that. The Z-2300s are a superb buy, one of the best of the year. 180w of bass, 2 x 40w satellites, and a peak of 400w total power, and THX certification is an unparalleled combination. The subwoofer does heat up a little bit, you are bound by a wired remote, and a usual high volume distortion is present but these few flaws can't drag the Z-2300s down very far. If you're in search of a 2.1 system that'll impress everyone with excellent quality and bass but won't blow away your cash, the Logitech Z-2300 speaker system is the applicant with three doctorates. The Logitech Z-2300 speaker system is worthy of the Gold Award and an Editors Choice Award.

Thanks to Logitech for making this review possible.
