Everything arrived fine, packaged extremely well to leave the contents undamaged. After opening the box we were pleased to see the silver and black color scheme. Setup is a breeze, only a few wires to connect and organize around your desk. After setting the Z-2300's up, we went ahead and started gaming, watching movies, playing music, and pushing these speakers to their limits.
The speakers are controlled by a remote knob. It allows for power on/off, adjustment of the bass, and overall system volume. Wire length allows you to move it most anywhere around your computer but because it is wired, you may want to invest in a remote if you're going to watching DVD's from across the room. While we were unplugging the remote (it uses a screw in pin solution similar to the d-sub found on monitors), one of the mounting nuts on the subwoofer twisted loose. We were able to re-attach it using a pair of pliers but it would still occasionally come off when removing the plug.
As you can see from the dimensions, the subwoofer isn't that small of an item. If you've got a decent amount of foot room, putting it on the floor near a wall is the best situation. Make sure that you leave adequate room around the subwoofer as it will get fairly hot. Mounted on the back of the subwoofer to help combat the heat, is a giant heatsink. In no time, the subwoofer heats up and it's very evident that without that heatsink, something inside or near the subwoofer would probably be damaged. Allowing a fair amount of room around the subwoofer and speakers for air circulation is a must. We tried putting the subwoofer in a very tight space with minimal circulation (jammed into the corner under our desk which is wall on two sides) and it got extremely hot. Again, we emphasize, leave some room around the system so it has adequate circulation.
Also included with the system is a splitter for the headphone plug. Headphone -> RCA jacks. This allows you to hook up anything that uses RCA cables, primarily DVD players and video game consoles. In light of this, you're not just limited to using the set on your PC but with anything that has a headphone jack or RCA outputs. It's especially handy if you have a powerful laptop and want a strong audio setup to use when you're at your desk without having to hookup too much.
