Assembly

Assembling the LC14 is not a small task, though not extraordinarily difficult. However, the processes involved are tedious.

To assemble the LC14 you need to:
  • Remove case cover
  • unscrew right side aluminum panel
  • Insert standoffs and attach motherboard
  • Insert 5.25" drive and 3.5" drive
  • Insert power supply unit
  • Attach all cables.
Though the process does not vary much from any computer setup job, there are a few difficulties in assembly. The first one to be encountered involves removal of the front panel that hides the 5.25" drives. Friction holds the panel to the chassis with a lot of strength. Removal, while not too difficult, was an annoyance. However, if youre not careful, you can easily remove the power or reset buttons from their mountings - for the end user, these components are just about impossible to put back together.

The problem area; perhaps the buttons should be mounted to the front panel you need to remove instead?

The motherboard standoffs in this case are unusually finicky. The threads that insert into the mounting tray are coarse, but the ones that attach the motherboard to these threads are very fine. If you insert the motherboard screws at anything off from vertical, the screws will grip, and you will end up taking the entire riser/screw assembly off while trying to remove them. This issue led to some rather tense moments with a screwdriver, pliers, and a motherboard literally on edge.

The rest of assembly is essentially risk free, unless you are using a heatsink larger than a Zalman 7000.
