Interior Décor
The LC14’s interior is fairly roomy, providing capacity for seven expansion cards, ATX motherboard compatibility, and enough room to install larger heat sinks. It is nice to see that the LC14 can contain everything one would want in a home theater PC setup, though a standard 5.25” bay without stealthing would be useful for those of us who want to put in a fan controller, sound card panel, or flash memory card reader.
The room that awaits inside; also provided, a wealth of cables.
Unfortunately, the downside of having two 5.25” drive bays is things get a little crowded below; the LC14 can barely house standard RAM; taller memory modules will be all but impossible to fit inside this case.
Surprisingly, the LC14 bears the capacity for three 3.5” hard drives; many more than normally provided in a case of this type. Kudos to Silverstone for providing these extra bays; hard drives fill up quite fast when recording off of a television!
As you can see, cooling is provided by one 92 mm fan sucking in air from the front, and two 60mm fans pushing air out the back, providing the airflow needed to keep today's high end CPUs and graphics cards from overheating.
There is a good amount of ventilation on the side and bottom of the case for pulling fresh air into the case; fortunately, the 92 mm fan runs relatively quietly, but is still audible over the rest of the system; for an HTPC, silence is critical for an enjoyable movie or musical experience.
