Page 1 of 5 When it comes to cooling solutions, most people still use air for their PC's. Air is cheap (free most places), you can buy silent fans to avoid any overly noisy fans, and you won't spend a ton of money. You'll still have to deal with dust though. Filters can only help so much. We've all opened up a case an seen the results of what could've been a nuclear dust bunny. After some cleaning, it looks good as new and will stay that way, at least for a little while. But when looking closely at your fans, the innards are usually exposed by a small space around the core of the fan, allowing for dust and other airborne hoodlums to penetrate into your fan and accumulate somewhere that you can't clean off. This ingestion of dust can also shorten the life of the fan as it may interfere with internal components. This is why Acousti Products created their new Dustproof fan. It's even quieter than their normal batch of silent fans and will keep dust from penetrating into the fan, extending it's lifetime and prolonging replacement. Sound intriguing? In this review we will also be showing you a few extra products
QuietPC sent along that enable you to silence that noisy PC even
further as they tackle the elimination of audible vibration.
Now some information from the Acousti Products Dustproof Fan page, and some precaution about using silent fans and where responsibility rests.
"
AcoustiFans (both our ranges) have NOT been designed for maximum
airflow performance, but rather for ultra quiet operation (although the
cubic feet per minute (CFM) airflow specifications are still very
respectable). The ultimate solution for a near-silent system is
adequate airflow to maintain low system and component temperatures but
without excessive fan noise and vibration. These fans are not designed
for 'extreme' or 'overclocked' systems with a particular need for high
airflow, but rather for systems where several well positioned
ultra-quiet fans, each with a relatively slow RPM, will be more than
adequate for cooling purposes. This is why all our fans start as low as
5VDC for virtually silent operation. "
It's your own
responsibility, not that of anyone else, to make sure that your system
is adequately cooled to avoid any damage to your hardware.
"
The fan motor for the DustPROOF range of fans is extremely quiet - the
120mm version is approx. 16dBA with an airflow of 40CFM (at 7.5VDC).
The AcoustiFan™ DustPROOF series use the highest quality double-ball
bearings available for reliability, use anywhere inside a PC &
extra long life expectancy (upgrade your PC and take these fans with
you!). One of the unique features of these fans is that the motor has
been completely sealed from the outside environment, and this cuts down
the ability for noise to leak out from the motor and also eliminates
dust ingress!
Each DustPROOF fan
is also shipped with a unique 3-speed fan cable which gives the
installer the very maximum flexibility for plugging it in (3-pin OR
4-Pin), and selecting a speed suitable for your PC & your noise
sensitivity. However, if you opt for the lowest fan speed (virtually
silent at 5VDC) be certain to design the airflow through your PC system
carefully and monitor system and component temperatures!! "
